Job costs, gross and net profit

  • Gross profit (Admin / Managers and staff): what the job sells for (before tax, after discounts) less what the quote said it would cost.
  • Net profit (Admin / Managers): the same price less what it really cost: materials bought, crew hours × each person’s cost per hour, sub invoices and other costs. Final once the job is completed.

Entering costs (job page → Profit → Job costs and net profit)

  1. Copy the materials from the quote, then change quantities and Paid each to what you bought. The quoted price stays beside it.
  2. Add a material bought for anything extra, with the supplier’s invoice number.
  3. Add a sub invoice: who, amount, their invoice number and date.
  4. Add labour not on the time clock or another cost (dumpster, permit, rental).
  5. Crew hours come in from the time clock by themselves.

Why net and gross differ

When they’re more than 10% apart, the page lists the reasons with dollar amounts: material prices went up (quoted vs paid), more materials than quoted, more labour / sub invoices, other job costs. Profit by category splits the job into Roofing – Shingle, TPO, Steel, Soffit, Fascia, Eavestrough, Siding, Duradek, Windows & Doors (or your own categories).
