Open it from Roof measuring in the menu (find the job, or pick one waiting to be measured) or Measure the roof on the job.

With satellite pictures (needs the company’s Google key)

  1. The job’s address loads as a satellite picture with the scale already set.
  2. Use the arrows to centre the house, and Close or Closest to zoom. Your tracing moves with the picture.

From a screenshot or drone photo

  1. Upload a picture: a Google Maps satellite screenshot (zoomed in, with the scale bar) or a drone photo taken straight down.
  2. Set scale: tap both ends of the scale bar (or a garage door, about 16 ft), type its length and press Use this scale.

Tracing

  1. Trace a section: tap each corner of one roof plane in order, then tap the first corner again (or Finish section). Corners snap to ones already placed, so shared edges line up. Trace every plane.
  2. Set each section’s pitch in the list on the right.
  3. Mark edges: tap an edge to switch it between eave, rake, ridge, hip, valley and wall (step flashing).
  4. Drag to move around; + and − (or the mouse wheel) to zoom; Undo takes back the last corner or section.

Getting the pitch

  • Get pitch from Google (satellite only): Google’s 3D model of the roof gives each plane’s pitch. Put Google’s pitches on my sections uses the nearest one for each section.
  • Measure pitch from a photo: from the ground, stand back from the gable end, square to it, phone upright, and zoom in. Choose the photo, tap the left eave corner, the peak and the right eave corner. Use the result on one section or all.

The numbers

Roof area, flat footprint, squares, squares to order with waste, eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys, walls, drip edge and ridge cap. Save keeps the measurement on the job; Send to the worksheet puts squares, eaves, rakes, ridge & hips, valleys and walls (and the main pitch) on the job’s worksheet and opens it.

Tip: A job can have several measurements (house, garage). Pick one at the top, or start a New measurement.
